Great opportunities to help others come once in a way, but small ones surround us everyday.
On our many visits to the Ladiwali school, something caught our eye. The students relied on their own, home-brought water for the entire day with no opportunity to replenish the supply even on hot scorching summer days. Most of them came in on foot from nearby villages rationing their sips of water on their way to school, out of the fear of going through a full day without drinking water. While a bore-well existed, it was filled with mud and muck and hence there was no supply of free-running clean water. We first decided to get the existing bore-well cleaned. We got the pipelines laid, overhead tanks and RO filters of industrial capacity installed. This ensured that the basic need for clean water was met. We then noticed that although there were existing toilets, they were rendered unusable as there was no pipeline to the toilets and no taps hence they had no water. We got the pipelines connected and taps installed and functional to remedy the situation. Functional toilets and free-flowing water are things we all take for granted. We have always come away from Ladiwali carrying lessons. This time, on February 21 2020, we were reminded that to move forward we have to be mindful to give back.
