It has become an opportunity for people from diverse cultures and backgrounds to come together and embrace the practice of Yoga as a unifying force. The International Day of Yoga is observed on June 21 every year to instil the importance of Physical fitness and Mental alertness among students.

The students learnt to maintain balance, peace and poise which can act as an expression of the quest for excellence for synthesis and harmony.

This year our enthusiastic students at Ladiwali performed the yoga asnas in unison and to perfection.Various yoga postures and asanas including pranayama and meditation were performed. It was an opportunity for our students and teachers to embrace the numerous physical and mental benefits of yoga, from improved flexibility and strength to enhanced focus and emotional well-being.

To plant in a garden is to believe in tomorrow…

As we encourage the deep connection between nature and learning, watching plants grow is watching a miracle unfold. There is so much fun in getting your hands dirty and when you immerse yourself in gardening it becomes more than a hobby . . . it becomes a lifestyle. It starts with trying to grow food and eventually ends up adding colour to your entire life.

Our young friends at Ladiwali truly were captivated as they tried out their green thumbs.

They planted leafy vegetables and garden vegetables and of course their favourite summer fruit-Pineapple “Annanas” as they call it.

Ladiwali had its own special way of celebrating this special day with pride and reverence. The young students first had the traditional flag hoisting ceremony. Christmas came Early with lots of love and hope!!

Every accomplishment starts with a decision to try. This year we have seen the students at Ladiwali try and try hard. We have seen an increased attendance in classrooms with a definite move away from the Covid slump. We have seen renewed vigour to learn with an enthusiastic nod to online and smart tv learning. We have seen passionate and dedicated teachers put in extra effort to make class sessions more interactive and fun with reading walls and innovative charts. We are so proud!

Our team member Avantika Kampani visited them with chocolates and cakes to celebrate them and also engaged in a fun day of art activities for the different age groups coupled with singing and music. It was hard to leave at the end of the day but she came away with promises to be back soon and a heart full with all the love and cheer they shared.

Everything that you can imagine can become real

Our team member Avantika Kampani spends a lot of her time playing characters on stage. Characters that make children smile, tickle their imagination and spark their creativity.

As a part of her theatre group VAIPA she has been a part of the first Indian production of Madagascar, where she played Gloria the Hippo and regaled her audience.

Finding a way to make sure she took some of this excitement back to the children of Ladiwali she used her theatre earnings to install a smart television for the classroom.

The television was received with great cheer and the students have been using it to enrich their lessons and everyday classes.

They also enjoy the visual storytelling as it captures their attention and makes the classes richer, fuller more colorful and engaging.

Truly the future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.

Check In and Express Yourself!!!

When a student feels safe and supported, they are truly ready to be able to learn.

On March 28th 2023, Avantika Kampani from team Helpout shared a game she developed with the students of Ladiwali.

The game in Marathi allowed the children to dig deep and really share their feelings.

The silly time cards in the game allowed them to have fun and ensured they felt comfortable and safe to express themselves fully.

Towards the end of the afternoon even the teachers joined in and meaningful bonds were forged.

Self awareness, self control and interpersonal skills equip us to cope with everyday challenges. Moreover the benefit is felt both socially and academically leading to healthier life choices.

It was heartening to know that our friends at the school will continue to use this game and keep Checking In on themselves and each other keeping the classroom more vibrant!

They say perpetual optimism is a force multiplier….

Cool Buddy found its way to our little buddies at Ladiwali.

Playing is always fun and after many months of restricted play the children were delighted to run and play sport all the while knowing that any untoward aches and falls would be taken care of.

Cool buddy was also distributed for them to take home to help relieve any incidents of pain and swelling.

Knowledge gives Purpose, Power and Protection

On the 3rd of September as a run up to Teacher’s Day Helpout distributed an illustrated book on Fire Safety to the students at HelpOut.

The book both in English and Hindi was developed by one of our members, Shiv Kampani who as been an active fire safety ambassador.

He felt knowledge needed to be simplified so that it’s purpose was well understood by the audience.

That knowledge would give power to the students to keep themselves safe in the event of a fire. It would provide protection due to foresight eliminating loss of life and property.

The book was well received by the students who enjoyed the animated story telling and the colourful illustrations which made the learning more effective.

Planning Ahead

“In life, as in chess forethought wins”

If anything the last year has taught us to plan ahead, to be prepared. Towards this our team member Devarya planned to raise funds for monsoon preparedness by organising a chess tournament.

On May 14th over 25 participants engaged in a battle of wits for our first ever online chess tournament.

The game was played in the knockout format and had a 5 minute rapid format.

The enthusiastic participation was heartening. The proceeds were used towards umbrellas for our Ladiwali school students for the upcoming monsoon.

As we move towards a gradual opening post Covid we did not want the rains to play a dampener. We look forward to full classrooms once again.

Safety by Choice, not by Chance

Safety, does not come with the lucky. It has to be with the prepared.

Our team member Shiv has been advocating safety as a priority for a Surakshit Bharat.

Fire safety is a cause he has been working on relentlessly over the years. Leveraging his love for technology he has developed an intelligent gas sensor to inform the occupant of the home, through an alarm, sms email and a call of an impending fire hazard.

Sensafe is a smart gas sensor that uses IoT technology to detect gas leaks and then notify the user on the registered mobile phone number.

This is an effective second layer of protection for homes. It has detailed instructions for easy installation both in Hindi and English.

Shiv raised funds by its distribution in the community and then has used the funds towards, providing touch free sanitiser stations, masks oximeters and temperature monitors for the school at Ladiwali.

Our incredibly talented member Elisha held a bake sale, selling over 70 boxes of tea cakes.

The proceeds were used towards bettering the sports facilities in Ladiwali school.

From cricket bats, to goal posts, to footballs, Ladiwali saw its sports equipment revamped for the new year ahead. For Helpout the best part of the game is getting the opportunity to play and each box of tea cake made that possible.

The joy on faces of the children convinced us that truly play is powerful
