On Saturday 11th August, we held our independence football cup. With the monsoon humidity and slight showers, the teams battled on their pitches to try and secure a place in the semis which would be held on the next day, 12th August.
The event was held for a total of 9 hours, the group stages being held on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 8.p.m. and the knockouts as well as the semi-finals and finals being held on Sunday from 2:30 till 4:30 p.m. Snacks like Pizza, Ice-cream and even cookies made by one of our ‘HelpOut’ members were on sale.
It was a day full of excitement, fun and lots of goals scored by the 26 teams that we had successfully recruited from various schools and organizations. Out of the total 26, four teams were from NGOs: One each from 'Magic Bus' and 'Oscar Foundation and two from 'Rajasthani Mahila Mandal'. It was amazing to see that by the end of the cup we had managed to raise a total of Rs. 1,50,000. All the proceeds will go towards hosting a medical camp for the people at Ladiwali village.
The most exhilarating part was the prize distribution ceremony which consisted of awarding certificates, medals and trophies to the winners, runners-up team, the third place participants and the top scorer of the tournament.
This event was a huge success and it was heartwarming to see such enthusiasm coming from all our friends, participants, family and others without whom this would not have been possible.
